The architectural vision emphasizes geometric composition in sacred spaces, blending traditional church design with modern Canadian influences. A striking steeple, acting as a prairie beacon, reflects this fusion—honoring historical forms while remaining contemporary. More than a place of worship, Heartland Alliance is a space for gathering, reflection, and belonging.
The remote location posed challenges, requiring self-sustaining systems for power, water, and firefighting. With no city services, the church was designed to operate independently, echoing the resilience of early rural settlements that shaped the region.

the approach
The entrance to the church was carefully considered—rather than a direct road leading to the entrance, a winding, country-style path creates a sense of anticipation, reminiscent of old farmsteads and their deep rooted connection to the land. This approach ties the church’s design to both indigenous and settler architectural traditions, demonstrating how structures can work in harmony with their surroundings while addressing technical and environmental challenges.
Community involvement was at the heart of the project, with numerous committees playing a role in shaping the final design. From the kitchen and education spaces to the music areas and seating arrangements, the congregation had a voice in nearly every aspect of the building. This collaborative approach ensured that the church was not only architecturally meaningful but also deeply personal to those who would use it. Furthermore, the design prioritized future expansion, allowing for the seamless addition of spaces such as a youth wing, gymnasium, or additional classrooms. Unlike static buildings that resist change, Heartland Alliance Church was envisioned as a living, evolving space—one that would grow alongside its community for generations to come.
