The Chan House

a home shaped not just by architecture, but trust and friendship.

between architect and client—and the Chans were extraordinary in that way. Designing a home means being invited into someone’s life, learning how they live, what they value, and how they dream. For nearly two years, you become someone’s closest collaborator, almost a part of the family. And the Chans gave that trust fully, even going so far as to sell their original lot when it didn’t quite fit the vision, in search of something that would.

Atop Edmonton’s riverbank at Promontory Point, the site called for architecture that embraced its contours, light, and quiet majesty. The home was designed as a series of pavilions that step with the land, never imposing on it.

At its heart runs a lap pool spanning the building’s length—not just a luxury, but a glowing spine of the home. At night, with all lights off, the underwater glow reflects across ceilings and walls, casting a serene, dreamlike atmosphere.

the approach

From the street, you’d never know this world exists. The house is discreet and understated from the front. But step inside, and it becomes a journey of discovery—each pavilion connected through light, water, and warmth. It’s a deeply personal, immersive home. One that only could have come from two years of shared vision and trust.
